What Do You Actually Pay For When You Hire A Photographer...(Episode 2)

Salam sejahtera...selamat kembali...

In the previous episode, we've discussed particularly about the wedding promo that we've posted here. So now let's discuss on the TOPIC itself, "What Do You Actually Pay For When You Hire A Photographer":

1. I know that we're still considered as 'noobs' or 'newbie' or 'beginner' in this field (compared to other photographers who have been here since yearss), we're just 3/4 (three-quarter...not three or four) years. What i write here might have been wrote or told by other photographers before this, but i'm just gonna write this on my own so that the message will be spreaded widely.

2. Buying a DSLR nowadays is not impossible anymore. You can get a Nikon body and kitlens for around RM2000! It has been like a trend these days to hang your DSLR on the neck, walk around shopping mall and "click click click" your girlfriend while they're window shopping. I don't see anything wrong with that, it's a trend and trend will come and go, so better leave it there as it is.

3. The PROBLEM is that when these newbies want to earn 'some' money with their DSLR (just like us). So they started to get a name (just like us), print a business card (eerr..not yet like us), set up a free blog (just like us!) and promote their 'wedding photography service' (definitely like us!). Good one, kids these days got their own vision and mission and very 'independent' (read: INDIE) in earning money.

4. Oh...but wait...when we look at their charges, it stated "2 days shoot + 1 custom album + 1 sticky album + 1 cd unlimited copies + 1 8R framed...all for RM500 ONLY!" Wow! This is cheap like hell man!! (NOT like us!). When we ask them "how can you gain profit with this?"....then they said "oh very simple! it cost me about RM300 to do all the printings and RM50 for fuel and toll. I still get RM150 for me!" (smiling....)

5. Where's the cost for shutter depreciation (remember...every 'click' will depreciate your camera value) ?? Where's the cost for your time spent shooting the events (2 days!) ??? Where's the cost for time spent selecting pictures, editing, designing album bla bla bla?? Where's the cost for your car maintenance (you drive your car to the venue, to the printing shop, to collect and send the album...right) ?? Where's the cost for your internet usage?? Phone bills to call clients before, during and after wedding?? Errr.....ok...don't make me elaborate on this too long because they will just goes on and on.

6. In business, you need money to grow and to expand. You need money to do R&D in order to improve your services so that the customer will get the best out of you. Without a proper costing, do you think the photographer can grow and improve? If you hire the above photographer for your wedding, do you think they can survive and still shooting for the next couple of years? (i bet they still can la if they have permanent job with salary up to RM5k and above)..and furthermore, do you think they're REALLY SERIOUS being a photographer?

7. I'm posting this topic so that both photographers and customers can get a better picture on the basis of every photography service price. For photographers, you can get Saiful Nang or any professional photographers to give you the detail on the costing tabulation...or you can meet me so we can talk about it (i just wanna spread the message). For the customers, i hope that you can roughly evaluate by looking at both pictures and prices when you are hiring any photographer. Don't just look at the figure and suddenly shocked because "alah gambar aje pon....takkan sampai ribu2"....THINK AGAIN.

Photography business is not like selling groceries where you buy at RM3 and sell at RM5...you still got RM2 profit. We deliver our services so there's a price to pay for that, not only the physical pictures! Owning a DSLR doesn't make you a photographer...it just makes you a DSLR owner.

What Do You Actually Pay For When You Hire A Photographer...(Episode 1)

Assalamualaikum/Hello/Ohayou/Bonjour/Wai...

Well, our wedding promo is already out (refer to the previous post) and we're now prepared to shoot weddings WITH STYLE! Some of you might have wondered "what does this guy means with 'style'". So folks, i'll go straightaway to the main points :

1. We considered ourselves as photojournalists most of the time. We shoot whatever happen in front of our eyes so in order to get that moment, we have to be alert almost every millisecond of the wedding.

2. You might be wondering why we put 2 photographers in the promo. Why not only one? Well actually, 1 photographer is enough to cover a wedding but how can i shoot the couple-of-the-day and on the same time shoot whatever that is happening on my back? (e.g: people laughing, your mom and dad crying because they're so happy, your nephews and nieces playing hide n seek, your friends make jokes and L-O-L)......yes....the answer is the 2nd photographer. He will be the one who 'snipe' every moment from a distance without anyone noticing.

3. I know there are few photographers out there who are already professionals in taking candid wedding moments, but there are still photographers out there who can be considered as 'conventional'. We're here to offer you something different for your wedding because we feel that every wedding must be shot this way! Because it's the MOMENT that count, not how you pose.

4. Why don't we put our price in the promo? The answer is simple. We want you to look at our photos first and see whether this is what you really want. If you are satisfied, tell us, and we will give you our quotation. Please state how your wedding is going to be (2 days? 1 day? 3 days? 2 events in different weeks?) and we will attend to you shortly!

That's it for now. We'll write more on this topic later. Til then humans!
